It's about Time!

Ever since my work banned blogs, I think I have become a lazy blogger. Oh well huh? That means I am doing better things with my time right?!?! We have been so busy lately, it's been great. On top of full time jobs and school, we have been spending lots of time with our families and friends and crafting (me) and getting Christmas shopping organized (me) and uh... yeah, those are the highlights of our busy-ness lately. So, here are a few pictures for your enjoyment. I realized I haven't posted any Halloween pictures yet so here we go for the month of November plus Oct 31st.

For some reason, my pictures are not pulling up correctly so I can't write captions to them right now, darn! Let's see... The first one is Rugby today.. she is sick and we don't know what is wrong but she is acting so strange today. She is wondering around and is really uncomfortable. We'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow.

The next few pictures are us Thanksgiving night studying the black friday ads! Anne Marley and I woke up at 4:30 to hit the stores. We scored some great deals!

The football pictures are of the annual Turkey Bowl with the great U of U rugby crowd. These guys are all so great and are such awesome friends.

Zoe loves sleeping in the laundry basket. We set it next to the heater so most of her daylight hours are spent in that basket :) It's so cute.

The next is a picture of our bedroom. Richard bought a great big new bed frame for my birthday!! I have wanted one for a long time and he totally scored major points with this one!! He is amazing and I love him so much. The fact that Richard went out shopping on his own for this wonderful bed frame is one way I know he loves me very much.

THe two pictures of us at the U of U football games are the only documented pics for this season. We were fortunate to attend most of the home games through the use of my dads awesome tickets. We had a lot of fun this season! too bad the freakin lost to BYU. BOOOO!!!

Last but not least, Halloween! Richard dressed up like a dummy on my uncles front porch and scared tons of little kids. It was really fun!

Dirty Johnson's Dog Wash

For those of you who don’t know. We have a small business that I started up in Spring 05 called

Dirty Johnson’s Dog Wash and Grooming Shop.

Since the rest of the family was still growing the other family business “LoveSac” I needed something of my own. So my Dad and I got into the business we love most, the dog business!

Dirty Johnson’s has come a long way. It offers competitive priced Grooming and also Self Service Washing for those that want to save money, and make the mess at a place they don’t have to clean up. We are

strategically positioned right next to Tanner Park. (off leash dog park) So wheather you are “shooting the tube” or just taking your dog for a run, Dirty Johnson’s is positioned close by so you can wash little Fido off before you take him home.

The latest development is that my dad has retired and decided to start doing Pet Sitting in peoples homes. As it grows he will be finding other retired friends to help visit, feed and care for that dogs at peoples homes while they are on vacation. My brother Tres has also redesigned our website to let everyone know about some of the great products like the Furminator. (DeShedding Treatment) that we use at DJ’s.

Please visit www.johnsonsdogwash.com to check it out. The recession is tough but DJ’s is hanging in there, thank you to all of you who currently support DJ’s. Please let your friends and family know about the grooming, self service and pet sitting services that we offer. Dirty Johnson’s is one of the few “ma and pa” shops left in Salt Lake in the grooming business. I guarantee you will have a great experience there and will see that the prices are just as low if not lower than any of the big guys. Thanks again everybody!

- Richard

These two dogs, Puka and Rugby, were the first to visit and work at Dirty Johnson's, aside from the Johns himself of course.

Dogs Love Dirty Johnson's!!!

Go Rockies!

GO ROCKIES!

Lately when I do a post the pictures line up on the side and I can't move them around. This makes everything off center and I can't figure out how to fix this. Anyhoo...

Here are some pictures from the last two weeks. I dropped Richard off at the Priesthood session at the Conference Center Saturday night and the sky was dark but the light was hitting the temple so beautifully I had to park and take some pictures.

The next few pics of Rugby and Zoe are so cute. The one of them sitting on the kitchen rug is what I see twice a day when it's eating time. They love to eat! The other picture is so cute, they were snuggling up on the couch.

Woohoo!

Random but . . . these are things I love right now:

  • When Richard starts singing for no reason
  • When Richard starts dancing for no reason, especially in the morning or when he's hungry
  • Rugby and Zoe - the best dogs in the world
  • Fall Weather
  • Colorful fall leaves
  • The Style Network: Clean House and Super Nanny
  • Cozy Scents in the home
  • Crafting
  • Painting
  • Decorating
  • Organizing anything and everything all the time
  • When Rugby wants to snuggle real close under the covers
  • When Zoe snooos up in my inside spoon
  • Slippers
  • How Richard is such a handy man - A huge bonus I didn't know about until after I married him
  • Flowers
  • Blogging instead of doing homework (hehe)
  • WEDDINGS - I cry at most of them!
  • ENGAGEMENTS - I cry listening to stories of how people got engaged. So Magical!
  • Cooking yummy dinners for my honey
  • Cleaning (I actually do enjoy it!)
  • Being with good friends
  • Hearing people are pregnant (usually makes me cry too, so exciting)
  • The Temple
  • Church Music

Random list but I just felt like letting my thoughts go for a moment.

The small red leaves are Burning Bush leaves and the others are Maple.

Gotta Love Dinner Club!!!

Ruth's Diner treated us well. Can't wait for next month gals!

Camping Goodness

We have enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery upclose and personal two weeks in a row! It has been really fun to be out in nature especially during the fall. The weather was nice ( a little chilly at night) and the trees were so pretty! The best part was being with our good friends and enjoying good food and conversation over the campfire.

Rugby was shivering!

Caitlin's pregnant pic :)

Richard and Jeff chopped down a dead tree to add to our campfire! What true mountain men!!

Richard's New Truck

Pecan Lovers (and everyone else)

The food network is such a great channel. The other day I spent half an hour watching how to make Pecan Bars. The show did such a great job, I don't even like Pecans but I went and bought them and made the bars! They were fun to make and everyone who had them said they were very tasty.

Here's the recipe if you would like to make them! (There's a lot of butttter)

Crust:
1 1/4 pounds unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3 extra-large eggs
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping:
1 pound unsalted butter
1 cup good honey
3 cups light brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 pounds pecans, coarsely chopped

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
For the crust, beat the butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, until light, approximately 3 minutes. Add the eggs and the vanilla and mix well. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients into the batter with the mixer on low speed until just combined. Press the dough evenly into an ungreased 18 by 12 by 1-inch baking sheet, making an edge around the outside. It will be very sticky; sprinkle the dough and your hands lightly with flour. Bake for 15 minutes, until the crust is set but not browned. Allow to cool.

For the topping, combine the butter, honey, brown sugar, and zests in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan. Cook over low heat until the butter is melted, using a wooden spoon to stir. Raise the heat and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream and pecans. Pour over the crust, trying not to get the filling between the crust and the pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the filling is set. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until cold. Cut into bars and serve.
